SUSTAINABLE HEALTHCARE: ‘ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS – REALISING THE POTENTIAL’ (SHARP)

Health Education North West London (HENWL) funded the Allied Health Enterprise Development Centre (AHEDC), a joint venture between Allied Health Solutions and Buckinghamshire New University to undertake two projects:

• Sustainable Healthcare: ‘Allied Health Professionals - Realising the Potential’ project. The project was in two parts. Part A The key aim of this project was to identify and provide evidence to support and strengthen the contribution that AHPs can and do make to effective patient outcomes in rehabilitation and reablement, dementia through to end of life and transfer of care. Part B considered the contribution AHPs to those with neurological conditions and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The impact of this work included:

• the Trust hosting their first AHP conference to raise the profile of AHPs and the services they provide.
• recognition, investment and the recruitment to a new Trust AHP lead post to provide strategic leadership for AHPs across the organisation.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN AHP STRATEGY FOR BARNET, ENFIELD AND HARINGEY MENTAL HEALTH TRUST 2020

Allied Health Solutions designed and developed the AHP strategy in collaboration with stakeholders across the Trust.

Readiness of the workforce to be upskilled to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities in which they work

In July 2022 Health Education England, now NHS England South East commissioned this work to scope the readiness of nurses, allied health professionals and the rehabilitation community workforce, including support workers to be upskilled to more advanced practice. The national plan is to upskill the community staff through enhanced practice, advanced practice, and consultant practice to improve the care they give to those in the community. Several reports were produced each focused on: AHPs, Nurses, Managers, those working in social care and Chief People Officers.

WESSEX CANCER ALLIANCE (WCA) AHP LEADERSHIP WORK 2018 – Current

June works as an AHP consultant advisor with the WCA. The priorities of the role are to:

• Professionally lead the AHP and allied health support worker workforce in Wessex to realise their potential to transform care and treatment for people with cancer.
• Lead the prehabilitation and rehabilitation work across the WCA
